Wild Camping (with Wi-Fi)

At the top of Langstrothdale, where the wind carries curlew calls and the golden light rolls across the hills, you can take a break from the stresses of ordinary life and connect with nature at Nethergill.

Located in the heart of the Dales Way, Nethergill Farm is a popular overnight spot for walkers and cyclists. Wild camping (with wi-fi) is available for walkers and cyclists (no cars) at £12 per person outside of the summer campsite season. We also regularly welcome Duke of Edinburgh Award students - please email us for details.

The following facilities are available at our Nature Barn:

  • Tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks are available with honesty payment box.

  • Microwave and washing up facilities.

  • Toilet facilities (no shower).

  • Free Wi-Fi (no password).

FAQs

When are you open?

Our main campsite is open from 3 July until 31 August 2026. Outside of this period, we offer “leave no trace” wild camping solely to hikers and cyclists .

What do you charge?

From 3 July - 31 August 2026, a standard BYO pitch (up to 4 people) costs £40 per night. A XL BYO pitch (up to 6 people) costs £55 per night. The bell tents cost £80 per night and accommodate 2 people (travel cot available on request).

Are dogs welcome?

Yes, on leads — we are surrounded by livestock and ground‑nesting birds.

Is your campsite family‑friendly?

Absolutely. It’s peaceful, spacious and safe.

How many pitches do you have?

Our exclusive campsite is curated for quiet with only 4 standard non-electric pitches and 2 bell tents. Each bell tent comes with its own fire pit. Fire pits are available for hire for grass pitches at £5 per stay. We also provide communal picnic benches and campsite games across the site.

Tell me more about the bell tents.

Our two bell tents can accommodate up to 2 people each. They are set up as standard with a double bed and mattress with luxury bedding. We have also added some helpful finishing touches including, camp chairs with warm throws, rugs and cushions, a chest of drawers to help keep your belongings organised, a wet shoe tray for muddy boots and a coat stand.

What about wood for the fire pits?

You are welcome to bring your own wood or you can purchase firepit starter packs for £10. Please do not forage for wood anywhere on the farm — all fallen timber is part of the land’s natural habitat and essential for wildlife. We’re relaxed hosts, but any evidence of foraging will result in immediate removal from the campsite.

Can I bring my car?

In July and August, all BYO and bell tent pitch bookings include one car on site. Parking is just a short walk away from the meadow. If you want to bring an additional car per pitch, a £10 surcharge applies for the length of your stay. For all wild camping bookings outside July and August, we cannot accept cars on site.

Do you have any camping rules and guidelines?

We’re delighted to share this wild corner of the Dales with you. Treat it gently, move slowly, and you’ll feel the magic of Nethergill settle around you.

These simple guidelines help keep the valley quiet, the wildlife safe and the experience special for everyone.

🌾 Respect the Land

  • Please stay on the well trampled “paths of desire” and designated camping areas to protect habitats and ground‑nesting birds.

  • Please close gates and avoid disturbing livestock.

🔥 Fires & Cooking

  • Small, contained fire pits or stoves only. No open ground fires or disposable barbeques.

  • Keep fires raised off the grass and never leave them unattended.

  • Ensure everything is fully extinguished before bed or when leaving your pitch.

  • Please do not forage for wood anywhere on the farm — all fallen timber is part of the land’s natural habitat and essential for wildlife. We’re relaxed hosts, but any evidence of foraging will result in immediate removal from the campsite.

🗑️ Leave No Trace

  • Take all rubbish home or use the bins provided.

  • Please don’t leave food scraps — they attract wildlife.

  • If you spot litter, feel free to pick it up; it helps keep the valley pristine.

🔇 Quiet & Consideration

  • Nethergill is a place for real quiet. Please keep noise to a minimum, especially after dusk.

  • No amplified music — the soundtrack here is curlews, wind and weather.

🚗 Parking & Access

  • Park only in the designated areas to keep tracks clear for farm vehicles.

  • Drive slowly on the approach — sheep, dogs, chlidren and wildlife roam freely.

🐕 Dogs

  • Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead around livestock and wildlife. From March to July, many ground‑nesting birds are raising their chicks in the long grass — dogs must stay on leads at all times during this period to protect them.

  • Please clean up after them and dispose of waste responsibly.

💧 Water & Facilities

  • Use water thoughtfully. We’re a remote upland farm, and our borehole supplies all our water, so every drop is precious.

  • Eco‑friendly soaps and shampoos only, please.

🌙 Night-time

  • This is a dark‑sky area. Please keep torches and lights low to preserve the night sky and avoid disturbing wildlife.
